Snowboarder Falls in Crevasse and Lives to Tell the Tale

Crevasses are one of the most feared and most deadly obstacles skiers and snowboarders can encounter on a mountain. Particularly in high alpine environments that are glaciated as is common in places like Alaska and even the French Alps. Here’s the story of one luck survivor. We are quite shocked not only by the severity of this guys fall but also how calm he remains throughout the video.

On February 17, 2015 Brandon Kampschuur was snowboarding off-piste on Glacier des Rognons in the Grands Montets resort in Chamonix and fell into a deep crevasse. He sustained very minor injuries during the fall and landed on a snow bridge. He was skiing with a guide who found him within about 20 minutes and initiated a crevasse rescue with the Monte-Blanc ski patrol. He was out of the crevasse about 45 minutes after falling in and considers himself very lucky.
