Fiji Airways Flight Quarantined at LAX after 13 Passengers Fall Ill

UPDATE – 4:42pm PST – Fiji Airways statement

We can confirm that 13 passengers off our Nadi-Los Angeles flight FJ810 which arrived in Los Angeles this afternoon 2pm local time ( June 15), have reported being sick. At this stage we are working to ascertain the cause. All we know at this stage is that the 13 were part of two groups travelling together and stayed at the same resort. They were checked and attended to by paramedics upon arrival. One has been sent to the hospital for further checks and the remaining 12 have refused further medical attention. All other remaining passengers on the flight have been cleared and released.

Over a dozen passengers fell ill on a Fiji Airways flight that landed at LAX on June 15th after departing from Nadi, Fiji.

EMS personnel treated the 13 passengers aboard flight 810, which arrived into LAX at 1:45pm according to the LA Times.

The plane has been quarantined for the time being until medical professionals can assess the situation as mandated by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention and the US Customs and Border Protection regulations.

Ironically for surfers, the Fiji Pro is underway on the island of Tavarua off the coast from the main island of Fiji.

Kelly Slater recently did a promotional video for Fiji Airways as millions of viewers worldwide tune into the Fiji Pro surf contest. The event is one of Fiji Tourism’s most important marketing opportunities of the year.
