Legendary founder of Mammoth Mountain, Dave McCoy, turns 100 today on August 24, 2015.

A hydrographer for the city of Los Angeles, McCoy discovered that Mammoth had one of the best snowpacks in the Sierra. He paid $5 to get a license from the forest service in 1953 and the resort has been on the up and up ever since.

“I never looked for fun,” McCoy famously said. “The fun was having fun.”

Happy Birthday Dave and thanks for everything.
