Experience Mark Healey’s Two-Wave Mavericks Hold down Via Gopro

Mark Healey is no stranger to big waves and big wipeouts. The Hawaiian pro surfer has taken many a bomb on the head in places like JAWS and Waimea. Yet it is the cold, dark green waters of Mavericks in northern California that compelled the big wave veteran to share this latest video:

“I realized that even though this video has been posted numerous times and played on TV stations around the world, it has never been posted in it’s entirety. This gives you a better glimpse of what a two wave hold down at Mavericks is really like. This is what inspires my training techniques. Hard cardio output straight into anaerobic situations. The cold water flush makes it much harder to deal with, as the shock of your wetsuit getting completely flushed gives your body an automatic “gasp” response. Gotta pay to play!”
