A 14-foot Great White shark died in the sands of Wellfleet, MA despite the best efforts of dozens of beachgoers that attempted to save the stranded animal.

In an impressive display of teamwork the crowd dug a trench and dragged the shark out to sea, yet time had run out and the shark did not revive.

Massachusetts has become an unlikely home to Great Whites the last few years as an increasingly large seal colony has established itself on Cape Cod.
