Shaun White is now looking to take Bear Mountain & Snow Summit to new heights.

Professional snowboarder, musician and entrepreneur Shaun White is getting involved in the ski resort business. As reported by the LA Times, White has officially joined Mammoth Resorts as an investor and partner. Mammoth Resorts owns Mammoth Mountain, Bear Mountain, Snow Summit and June Mountain in California.

White will be primarily focused on improving the guest experience and offerings of Bear Mountain and Snow Summit, located in the San Bernadino Mountains east of Los Angeles. White, a native of Carlsbad in San Diego, grew up learning to ski and snowboard in Big Bear.

“The place is a huge part of my upbringing and where I grew up,” said White. “Today Bear and Summit keep getting better and better. They were there in the beginning, and they’re still there, delivering an amazing park, great features and great general vibe around the mountain. It’s not like that at every resort.”

Rusty Gregory, CEO of Mammoth Resorts, stated that White has committed a “seven figure” investment into the company.

“We think he is the exact right guy to sit at the table with us and move culture in Southern California,” Gregory said.

Mammoth Resorts purchased Bear Mountain and Snow Summit, collectively known as Big Bear Mountain Resorts, last season and has been steadily making changes to the operations and amenities the resort offers including improved services and dining options, as well as raising prices.

A rumored lift connection between the two mountains, currently separated by a couple miles in the town of Big Bear Lake is the talk of the town in addition to adding hotels and opening up more terrain.

It will be interesting to see what influence White actually brings to the table other than affiliating his celebrity to the the terrain parks and signage.

Having launched his own Shaun White clothing and skateboard label at Target along with having signature Burton and Oakley product and the Air & Style competition series, White’s new foray into the ski resort business will no doubt test the 29-year-olds Gold Medal metal.

Let’s just hope the flying tomato can add some spice to the scene at Big Bear without smothering it in too much celebrity sauce.
