Tony Hawk And Friends Get Rad For Ray 2016 – #BoardrBoys

The spirit of Ray Underhill was everpresent at Kennesaw Skatepark on Sunday, June 19, 2016. Even before Tony Hawk and an all-star roster of pro skaters took to the bowl in the afternoon, the inclusive event that saw new skaters get instruction and local novices showing their best in the amateur competition gave everyone the opportunity to enjoy the thrill of skateboarding. And for those who didn’t get a chance to ride earlier in the day, the pros put on a show in the bowl that afternoon, demonstrating the skill and joy that characterized their friend.

Hawk and friends organized NIXON Get Rad For Ray Presented By Kennesaw Skateshop to celebrate the life and legacy of Ray Underhill, a member of the infamous Bones Brigade squad of the 1980s, and a teammate of Hawk’s. After a long battle with Chordoma, a rare but relentless spinal cancer, Underhill passed in 2008. Proceeds from the event benefited the Ray Underhill Foundation, which assists families affected by Chordoma.

The 80s-themed Legends skate jam included Hawk, Mike McGill, Aaron “Jaws” Homoki, Kevin Staab, Ben Raybourn, Brighton Zeuner, Lester Kasai, Mike Rogers, Brad McClain, Donny Griffin, and Lizzie Armanto, who were joined by the winners of the earlier amateur events: Pete Kelly, Jay Wooten, and Ronan Livingston.
