Best Powder Boards of 2016/2017 – Salomon Super 8 Review

Predictable, powerful, and unlimited are a few words we heard used to describe the Super 8. This multi-purpose powder board designed by celebrated Salomon team riders Wolle Nyvelt and Josh Dirksen was devised to not only hack up fresh powder, but rally the resort equally well. While we were far from a resort at Eagle Pass, we pushed this board through variable conditions with ease.

The setback stance and camber profile lets us auger our back feet into the snow without washing or looping out, while the flat section from the front foot forward allowed for a nice, planed float. Two sets of basalt stringers running from tip to tail amplify response and pop while still maintaining the board’s medium overall flex. We found this especially apparent in the tail when loading up ollies and riding in the backseat. Salomon’s Popster core milling thins out the core in specific areas to promote pop and create fluent torsional flex. A touch of added width gives this board a slight advantage in the float and stability department but also minimizes toe and heel drag for riders with large feet. For those seeking surf-style powder riding, freestyle features, and mean carves after the storm, the Super 8 is the solution.
