NazareSurfers in Portgual took advantage of the storm ravaging the eastern Atlantic this week, riding some of the biggest waves ever caught on film. Hawaiian surfer Garrett MacNamara broke a world record at the spot, dubbed Nazare, a couple of years ago to much acclaim. The group of surfers tackling the monstrous peaks included Brazilian big wave charger Maya Gabeira who was hospitalized after a devastating wipeout, during which she suffered a broken ankle and almost drown

Others surfers making of the session included Carlos Burle, (who rescued Maya and later grabbed the wave of the day),  Sylvio Mancusi, Rodrigo Koxa, Felipe “Gordo” Cesarano, Hugo Vau, Eric Rebiere, Pedro Scooby, Andrew Cotton

Check out this incredible footage of Maya Gabiera’s rescue. To read an interview about how it all went down check out Stab Mag.
