Great White Rescued Off Beach in Chatham, MA
A Great White Shark was rescued off a beach in Chatham, MA on Monday, July 13, 2015 by beachgoers and harbor officials after it was stranded by the low tide.
The juvenile White Shark, measuring 7-feet in length, beached itself along the South Beach area in Chatham after attempting to allegedly capture seagulls on the sandbar. As the tide went out the animal become stuck.
Video and photos capture the scene in stunning chronologic detail in a life-is-stranger-than-fiction case of a fish out of water.
That shark was eventually successfully tagged and released after officials towed it off the beach with a Boston Whaler and revived it before it swam off.
Chatham, MA and Cape Cod have seen a spike in Great White activity in recent years as the sea lion population has rebounded.
Many of the bigger animals can be tracked via OCEARCH.org, which has tagged several lark sharks in the the last few summers.
