Big Snow on Tap for Sierras Next Week – Up to 5 Feet Expected
The action begins on Thursday December 10, 2015.
Howard Scheckter is the go-to weather man in Mammoth Lakes and his website www.MammothWeather.com is a nuanced look at how weather patterns and storms impact the Central Sierra.
Howard’s forecast for mid-to-late next week is looking VERY promising for Central and Northern California with potentially upwards of 5 feet of snow falling in the Sierras over the next 10 days.
This is great new for Tahoe and Mammoth though it looks to be too far north for Big Bear to benefit.
If this holds, the weekend of Dec 11-13 is looking to be a doozy and not one to miss. Check out Howard’s forecast and get those skis & boards shined up.
“A series of Winter Storms look destined to slam the Sierra from north to south beginning about Mid Week, next week…Amounts through Friday AM are not super heavy but between 1 and 2 feet is certainly possible…The upper jet is expected to sag south through the Bay area and Mammoth later Thursday allowing the southern sierra to benefit from precipitation…There are subsequent systems in this pattern destined for California. So another storm is possible sometime that following weekend…One thing seems likely…The snow will be accumulating up in the Sierra! Some of the guidance suggests up to 5 feet of fresh over the next 10 days on Mammoth Mt.”
