Gus Kenworthy Lands Cover of UK LGBT Mag, Attitude

Freeskier and Olympic silver medalist, Gus Kenworthy, has an extensive 10-page feature in the new issue of UK LGBT magazine, Attitude. The 25-year-old skier, originally from England but having grown up in Colorado, came out in October 2015.

the interview focuses on the challenges and opportunities the new star has experienced in his transition from in and out of the closet along with the fear of discrimination while in Russia for the Sochi Games.

“It felt shitty,” Gus says of being closeted during the Games, where he made his name with a silver medal finish.

“I wasn’t worried about being targeted necessarily, because nobody knew that I was gay but I still felt uncomfortable knowing how Russia, the country and the government, felt about me. I had been in Russia the year before for the test event with my boyfriend and they wouldn’t let us check into the hotel room. They were like, ‘Two guys can’t be in the same bed’.
