The Sheckler Foundation’s co-founder and pro skateboarder, Ryan Sheckler said, “I’m so blessed to be a part of this event. Every year I’m blown away by the support we receive at SKATE FOR A CAUSE. I want to thank everyone from the riders and supporters to the sponsors who came out to support our cause.”
Chris Cole, Kevin Romar, Chris Joslin and dozens of other notable skateboarders brought the heat on the cool cloud-covered day. Families and individuals bought out all the raffle tickets and consumed every last taco from Chronic Tacos. Guests participated in carnival festivities and got to watch their favorite pros compete against each other. The event kicked-off at 10:00 a.m. with the Legends Bowl Practice followed by a demo from WCMX (Wheel Chair Moto Cross) and Adaptive Action Sports athletes who got the crowd pumped for the contests to follow.
For the first year ever, the Sheckler Foundation created an award that went to the most creative event activation. He accepted a bigger position with the City of Lake Forest that he starts next week.
BE THE CHANGE
Andrew Hale was this year’s honoree at SKATE FOR A CAUSE and the Sheckler Foundation’s latest “Be the Change” recipient whose impact and expertise is greatly valued by the action sports community. Andrew became an Adaptive Action Sports athlete after he was involved in a car accident and lost his leg. Throughout the years, Andrew has made progress towards making the Paralympic Snowboarding Team for United States of America (USA). In January 2016, Andrew suffered through a snowboarding accident that left him with a brain and spinal cord injury. Andrew received recognition and a grant for $10,000 on behalf of Ryan Sheckler and the Sheckler Foundation that will go towards the cost of his medical treatments.
The Sheckler Foundation would like to thank all of its supporters, generous sponsors, skateboarders and individuals who attended and showed their support at the 7th Annual SKATE FOR A CAUSE.
