California Expecting More Snow This Sunday/Monday
As if Mammoth receiving 12-30″ of snow this week wasn’t enough to enable them to open early, California is now expecting another hit of snow on Sunday/Monday.
From the Nation Weather Service:
FAST MOVING LOW PRESSURE WILL MOVE ACROSS THE SIERRA AND WESTERN NEVADA SUNDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHT. THIS WEATHER SYSTEM WILL BRING ANOTHER ROUND OF SNOW FOR THE SIERRA AND WESTERN NEVADA. * TIMING: THE SNOW IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN IN THE SIERRA AND NORTHEAST CALIFORNIA SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND THEN SPREAD ACROSS WESTERN NEVADA BY SUNDAY EVENING. IN LOWER ELEVATIONS...THE PRECIPITATION MAY BEGIN AS RAIN BUT A QUICK CHANGE TO SNOW IS EXPECTED. LIGHT TO OCCASIONALLY MODERATE SNOW WILL CONTINUE THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT. * SNOWFALL POTENTIAL AND IMPACTS: WHILE SNOW AMOUNTS ARE NOT EXPECTED TO BE VERY HEAVY...THE AIR MASS WILL BE COLD ENOUGH FOR SNOW TO ACCUMULATE DOWN TO THE LOWER ELEVATION VALLEYS INCLUDING THE RENO AND CARSON CITY VICINITY. IT WILL ONLY TAKE A SMALL AMOUNT OF SNOW TO PRODUCE SLICK AND ICY CONDITIONS...LEADING TO A HIGHER RISK OF TRAVEL DELAYS AND ACCIDENTS FOR THE MONDAY MORNING COMMUTE.
