Callagy Fahey Ross, 23, of Stowe died Monday, Dec. 7, 2015, while doing one of the many things she loved — snowboarding in Jackson Hole, Wyo.

Having earned her undergraduate degree in English and anthropology at the University of Vermont, Callagy moved to Jackson Hole less than a week ago to commit to mountain sports, as she had to sailing for the last six years of her life.

According to the Jackson Hole News & Guide, the snowboarding accident was reported Monday at 3:24 p.m. on Moran Run, below the Togwotee Pass traverse, on the north side of the trail in the trees. Patrollers performed life-support efforts and transported Callagy to St. John’s Clinic in Teton Village at about 3:45 p.m. However, she could not be revived.

Callagy had been a member of the UVM sailing team since enrolling in college. She earned her high school degree from Class Afloat of Nova Scotia, a classroom setting aboard a three-mast topsail schooner.

During her senior year, she survived a freak accident when her ship sank and all aboard drifted for several days off the eastern coast of South America before being sighted and subsequently rescued. Frequently, as a result, the Fahey Ross family expressed that every day is a miracle to spend wisely and with love.
