Mary Lee – the 3,500 lbs. White Shark is Off Long Island

Mary Lee the Great White Shark tagged by the OCEARCH.org off the coast of Cape Cod in 2012 loves the Gulf Stream. Each summer she makes her way to waters off of New York and New England to feed and give birth while spending each winter south off Florida. She’s a regular snowbird.

Currently Mary Lee is making her way North to her summer feeding grounds. The large seal populations that live on Cape Cod. AS of May 12, 2015 she’s about 40 20 miles of the southern cost of central Long Island in the Islip Area.

Like many New Yorkers she seems to be heading east for the summer, hopefully she doesn’t stop to snack on the locals.
